The scandal of the incarnation is that God worked in what was unworthy: dirt and blood, stones and wood, fire and flesh.
And the Word becoming flesh was not merely a way to communicate the gospel story, it was the gospel story--for what He assumed, He redeemed.
Incarnation anthropology says that who we are a humans is rooted in the fact that God himself was human.
So we can be spiritual and know God and be used by God, not despite our human flesh, but precisely because of our human flesh.
It's an idea as unsettling as it is inspiring. It's easy to gloat in our unworthiness and sit around being useless.
How much harder and better to realize--and to live like--the incarnation is true and we are used.
The Incarnation Demos contains six songs written for Caedmon's Call in 2001, but not recorded by the band.
The recording includes the original rough demos performed by Aaron Tate, as well as clean versions performed by Gabe Scott.

Pass The Peace
Aaron's Original Demo
Gabe's Clean Demo
I'm a bit too old to find idealism easy
But I'm too young to give up the dream
So while this world is waging war
I will pass the peace
I'll pass the peace in things great and small
I'll pass the peace try to leave some salt
Cause now I can see
That I can give even more than I've got
So even when I don't have a lot
I'll pass the peace
Complacency is a prison without bars
Took me so long to see I was free
To actually do all that I said was true
And to pass the peace
CHORUS
Cause peace took on flesh,
Peace took on blood
Peace conquered war with a sword of love
Died and he rose, and when he did leave
Said I leave you here to pass the peace
And I want to wage peace
But I was born armed to the teeth
With privilege, pride, lust, envy, greed
But he said "Put your sword away"
Now I can see
That I can give even more that I've got
So even when I don't have a lot
I'll pass the peace
Don't Be Scared
Aaron's Original Demo
Gabe's Clean Demo
I heard you say that you're depraved
But even the demons believe in that
And they laugh
But despite your sin
I heard you married in
To royalty to the family
So don't you forget your better half
Who do you think you are
A prodigal, sure, but you're not that far
And I've seen better but he's used worse
And every saint is a sinner first
So this is the night and you are a star
So don't be scared of who you are
Growing up you heard that life's absurd
And you're nothing
And there's nothing good that you can do
Now can it be found a theology
That says the same
So it seems it's true to you
But don't forget your better half
CHORUS
The funhouse mirror says you're
Nothing like the sun
Can that be true
He made the world from nothing
What's he making of you?
Time is Truth
Aaron's Original Demo
Gabe's Clean Demo
Please can we start at the beginning
Cause I love everything when it's new
And loving you was so easy to do
When I first met you
But now small resentments have collected
Like sand hardening to stone
You say no more that I expect
And sometimes I'd prefer to live alone
But I can't start at the beginning
Cause there's a reason you move time
Time is truth and the only proof
That I am yours, and you are mine
Thing is I want to be free only
Cause I've forgotten
How alone is so lonely
And you make me so whole
That I forgot how empty is my soul
And every year it's more clear
That you are my only strength
And the truth of love is found
Not in depth but in length
CHORUS
And the truth of love is found...
I am yours, you are mine
Made For You
(All That You Assumed)
Aaron's Original Demo
Gabe's Clean Demo
Now the world is aflame,
But not consumed
And you healed all that you assumed
And now everything it can be used
I laid low like unleavened bread
Like dry valley bones like Lazarus dead
But the curse on the earth
Has been reversed
So I am raised up instead
The creator came to incarnate clay
And what looks unworthy now is changed
The same truth they mocked
That the divine walks
And works in flesh today
So now the world is aflame,
But not consumed
And you healed all that you assumed
And now everything it can be used
Cause all that was made
Was made for you
Now my hands can touch your side
From which you birthed your Eve,
Your bride
And the water and blood
Flowed like the flood
Onto the ground and into my life
Well Melchizedek he was just your type
Like the arks and Jonah's three-day night
Cause all of history like the mysteries,
Is threaded up with light
We Come To You
Aaron's Original Demo
Gabe's Clean Demo
As you came to us
So we come to you
Fragile as a baby
Hopeful and new
But leaning fast
That to walk is to fall
Soon we've done it all
We come broken
And we come undone
We come trying hard
To love everyone
But we come up short
In all that we do
Because we do
So we come to you
As you come to us
So we come to you
Dirty and hurting
Then dead in the tomb
But raised redeemed
To show off the scars
Cause you've brought us so far
CHORUS
You came to show the way
Not around but through
So through it all
We come to you
I Can't Hide
Aaron's Original Demo
Gabe's Clean Demo
I'm a bumper sticker
I'm shallow and bold
With a clever phrase I will make you day
Though you know my heart is cold
But none of my friends ask me how I'm doing
Cause maybe they're afraid that I'll ruin
This little truce that seems we've called
Where we let each other fall
But I can't hide my truth from the truth
My ways from the way
My life from the life
Cause that's you
And though I try all my disguises
You see through and you always do
Cause I can't hide from you
You're the table turner
In the temple of my soul
Calling my bluff when I'm dressing up
Like the emperor in new church clothes
Cause I've sown this fig leaf facade
And I got a big ol' voice like oz
But you tore the curtain and you can see
The real me
CHORUS
